Getting Hooked

There are a lot of suspension teams that  receive mixed reviews; some people love them, while others will have issues with this or that. Then there are the groups that I continually hear positive comments and praise for. HOOKED Suspension Team, out of Omaha, Nebraska, absolutely falls into that second category. The members of HOOKED are dedicated to creating a suspension environment that is comfortable and inviting to everyone involved. They put forward the idea that no one should be judged for their dreams, and their willingness to work with individuals to help them achieve their goals has made this group what it is today.

That Wonderful Feeling

Outdoor locations add a lot of variables to the long list of things to consider when performing a suspension. Will the weather cooperate, what if you forget something, how far are you going on foot, along with many other things that have to be taken into account while planning it. However, when all of those pieces come together for it; you have beautiful weather, that perfect location, and a great group of people, the experience makes it worth all the effort.

Mastodon: Iron Tusk

I think a lot of people would agree suspending and good music go hand in hand. I love listening to something that gets me in the right mindset before I go up, and for me it’s got to be metal.  Naturally, I fell in love when I saw Mastodon’s video for Iron Tusk featuring the work of Psychotic Suspensions from Atlanta, Georgia.

After the break more stills and the original unedited video.

The Art of Suspension

While searching through photographs online, I have come across more and more suspension related artwork; everything from traditional sketches and painting to designs for fliers and group logos. Taking part in a suspension or even just witnessing one can be a very moving experience. It makes sense that those feelings would inspire other forms of art as well. The artist featured here, Ivan Ponomarev who runs Greed Design and Photo in Bryansk, Russia, created these designs for The Sinner Team.

From Russia with Love

#Leeds Suspensions may be a name that is unfamiliar to many of you. Founded in April 2010 by Arseniy Andersson, they are one of the newest teams in our growing community. Obviously, being the new kids hasn’t slowed them down any; with stunning pictures like these showing up around the internet, it’s no wonder that they are quickly gaining attention.

Dr. Benway Creations

These captivating images are courtesy of Thomas Dorman, or Dr. Benway as he is better known with his photography, from Cape Town, South Africa. This exhausting setup involved the suspension of nine individuals at the same time, and was made possible with the help of Wildfire Body Piercing Clinics. I don’t think I have ever used the words dirty and suspension together in a positive way before, but the gritty feel of these pictures was one of the first things that first drew me in. The earthy textures of the skin provide more than just a view of what is happening, it gives the scene an almost tactile quality.

The Outer Rim

Good photography, like any art, should move you in some way. It can make you feel a variety of things as you reflect on what is being presented. These photographs by Dave Hamilton certainly stopped me in my tracks when I first saw them. This photograph in particular caught my eye when it was featured on Bodymod.org by Jesse Heglin. I found myself staring at it and waiting to exhale, the same pause that comes in the moments right as you leave the ground during a suspension. It’s wonderful to see someone who does such an amazing job at catching that feeling in his photography.

Hook Love

Okay, I know. All of us in the suspension community are supposed to be super tough. In fact we are so macho we shove hooks through ourselves and hang from them just for fun.  But every once in a while I see a picture like this that pulls at my heart a little, and I couldn’t help but share. Couples suspending together is something I am seeing more and more of, and I love it. So go ahead… While no one is looking, enjoy a warm fuzzy moment.

We Are CoRE

“I try to remove bricks off the wall of society. In my lifetime, I will probably remove one brick from that wall, and that’s the whole point of this.“  -Steve Joyner

Trying to write about Constructs of Ritual Evolution, or CoRE as you might know them, may be one of the most challenging subjects I have taken on. I think a lot of that comes from the fact that what they are doing on stage is more about what you personally take away from it than anything else. It’s emotion; it is about making you think. The beautiful pictures here can’t begin to do justice to watching the real thing, and no amount of words could tell you what you would experience seeing it in person. I’m just here to tell you who they are and what they do. As for the rest… Well, you would just have to see them yourself to figure that one out.

Transitional Allure

I doubt this redheaded bombshell needs any introduction to our readers. Being given the title ‘Suspension Queen’ is a pretty big role to fill, but Miss Crash wears the crown well. These photographs taken by Luke Brereton back in 2008 at the Chicago Tattoo Convention are a perfect example of how she earns her spot as suspension royalty.
