If the name Aztlan Arts Suspension sounds familiar, you may have been lucky enough to see them perform on their current tour with Immersed In Ink Tattoo and Arts Festival. Their group formed almost three years ago, they began by doing small shows, and progressed on to traveling the country performing at tattoo conventions and artistic venues. I had the pleasure of briefly meeting a few of these guys in Tulsa at an AGRO meet, it was a wonderful time. Watching them work and suspend, you can definitely tell that they love what they do.
While talking about who the group was and where they were going, Spartacus had this to say, “Just recently my team and I started focusing more on why we do what we do then just doing it. I love this lifestyle, but I wanted to know why. I wanted my tribe to understand the reasons why all of this started and how it started. So head first we are diving right into the history of suspension as well as all extreme modifying. I love it all. Scalpelling, branding, implants, tattooing, piercing…. all of it. My wife and I have dedicated our lives to this industry and lifestyle. I feel it is an honor to mark someone’s body and I owe it to them to be the best I can be. In the future I want to strive to design new rigging systems as well as new methods for suspension and other forms of modification.”
It’s no secret how much I love suspension, and I have an immense respect for any group that I see trying to better themselves and this industry. It makes me so happy to see people who view what they are doing as something more important than just shoving hooks in skin. With their passion for what they do and their hard work, I am sure we will continue to see Aztlan Body Arts’ continued success in the future.
You can keep up with where they are going, or just stop in to say hello to these guys on their page at Myspace or Facebook. There is still time to catch them with Immersed In Ink September 3-5, 2010 in Colorado Springs. They will also be performing at InkFest Live in San Antonio September 10-12th and the Black Hills Tattoo Festival in Deadwood, South Dakota October 29th-31st, just to name a few!
Thank you guys so much for the great pictures!
If you know a suspension group that you think should be featured on Hook Life, feel free to send their name and contact information to southtownbaby@suspension.org!
