AGRO Tulsa

AGRO

Last weekend suspension groups and individuals from four states came together to participate in the August meeting hosted by AGRO Tulsa at Chandler Park. Although it was extremely warm out, it couldn’t have been a better setting. The area of the park chosen was a shady opening where three bluffs came together, with plenty of room for everyone to relax out of the way while people were setting up, suspending, and swinging. Despite the temperatures, the day was filled with smiles and laughs from everyone there, especially those who were going up. Read more

Skindependent

July 25th 2010, the crew from Skindependent put together an event they dubbed Open Suspension Day.  To date, this is largest suspension gathering to happen in New Zealand with 14 people suspending.  Although this team might be fairly new compared to some of the old timers, it’s obvious by their passion and attention to detail, this group is well on their way to becoming an influential and important part of the suspension community.

Skindependent

From Eden Thompson – “The day started around 9am and went through till about 5pm. Most people suspending it was their first time and others who had done it before wanted to try more elaborate suspensions giving us a chance to test our rigging skill. Everyone there had an amazing time and we hope to continue to do them monthly and eventually host the first ever New Zealand SusCon. A big thank you goes out to the crew, all the helpers and of course the support from the suspension community overseas. With this continued support we hope to be ever evolving to be the best we can be within our community.

Coming to a town near you!

With all the excitement in suspensions over the weekend in Oslo, here is some news from the community in the western hemisphere.

If you have frequented any of the larger tattoo conventions in the U.S. in the last couple of years these two are no strangers to you. Currently Penguin Boy, his partner Baron Von Geiger (amazing earlobe weight lifter) and the rest of The Squidling Bros. are on tour with the Coney Island Cockabilly Roadshow. On their 3rd stop of the tour they had the next day off to have a little fun at The Loft. Here is Penguin Boy doing his 2nd private suspension, as well as Baron Von Geiger pushing his own limits.

Rubiks Cube?

What is the hardest suspension? Well I guess it all depends on you point of view. For some it’s all about pain and endurance. For others it has more to do with rigging complexity or possibly skill level. For me personally, I think Jussi aka Dr Zacharias Snake solving of a Rubik’s Cube in less than 2 minutes while swinging, spinning and hanging from his knees has got to be one of the most impressive feats I’ve seen in a while.

Stelarc Would be Proud

It’s tough to single the most impressive suspension from the 2010 Oslo Suscon, but this beautiful piece was definitely up on the list. Håvve and Christiane did an amazing job rigging this suspension that is reminiscent of Stelarc‘s 1977 Event for Stretched Skin No. 4.

Oslo SusCon 2010

Just a short impression from 2010 Oslo SusCon (visit their site for more pictures!) – that 2pt Chest was made by Christiano and I think it is a very good example of all those excellent suspensions we have seen so far! Christiano got up pretty well and hung quite a while … here is some eye-candy:

Since it is my first post here I feel like I should write something about me: I’m Stephan from germany – I work in the piercing industry and loooove body suspension! I run my own blog at inkland.com and hopefully I can post some interesting european stuff here!

Oslo Suscon 2010

Today the 9th annual Oslo Suscon began with 9 successful suspensions and a veritable cornucopia of cultures from around the world convening once again to share their passions and skills. Post registration, the day was kicked off with an orientation speech by Wings of Desire founder Håvve Fjell. With co-founder Christiane at his side and clipboard in hand, he warmly welcomed practitioners with introductions, stories, and oodles of photos from previous WoD events.

Midday featured guest speaker Emrys Yetz as he presented a wonderfully touching story about founding Rites of Passage.  From his very first suspension experience to the direction the group is now going, ten years later, Emrys shared much about himself, his roots and the family he has found in the suspension community.

Dinner brought everyone together to share stories, jokes, and technical chatter over a casual family meal. Then as volunteers washed dishes and made coffee, crew members got to work throwing the first hooks of the weekend. The metaphorical dust was quickly brushed off as the first drop cloths were taped down. While rusty crew members observed, some of the worlds best suspension artists did that which they do best; put smiles on the faces of those fulfilling their dreams of flying. Words can rarely describe the joy and collaboration felt throughout the day and into the evening of any suscon. But as they say, a picture is worth a thousand blogs! So enjoy these little gems and more will be soon to come.
