The Neglect Series

Generally when photos appear on Hook Life they portray suspension as positive and empowering.  However, today’s image from Carl Farmer aka Red Tree Studio definitely breaks from the norm.  The piece below, featuring Kay Fagan from Post Modern Sleeze, is just one of a larger set of dark, yet beautiful images from his latest project – The Neglect Series.

Mastodon: Iron Tusk

I think a lot of people would agree suspending and good music go hand in hand. I love listening to something that gets me in the right mindset before I go up, and for me it’s got to be metal.  Naturally, I fell in love when I saw Mastodon’s video for Iron Tusk featuring the work of Psychotic Suspensions from Atlanta, Georgia.

After the break more stills and the original unedited video.

Anna B. Nana’s Knees

When you think of knee suspensions what comes to mind? Is it the number of hooks used? Possibly hook placement? The weight per hook ratio? What about the style of hooks to use? Salmon Hooks? Sea Demons? Gilsons? All of these came into play when Rick, Steve and myself were asked to conduct Anna‘s first knee suspension. For most of us, we have seen tearing of the knees. Whether it be minor, or completely torn out. With Anna we had minor tearing on the top hook of her left knee, and absolutely no tears on her right. In my eyes Anna has defied the odds.

In this video she is hanging from 6 points in her knees during one of The Loft Sessions.

ANNA KNEE SUSPENSION

Anna B. Nana is a tattoo artist at Evolved in Columbus, OH and one of the original members of D.E.E.P. Suspensions.

The suspension was performed by Rick Pierceall of AGRO, Steve Biohazard of Ritual Arisings and Jared Anderson of The Loft Sessions/Nu Ethix.

Pasión Suspensión

If there’s one thing the suspension community has lacked over the years it’s been good video documentation.  Back in the 90′s there were some amazing suspensions happening but the technology to capture and edit just wasn’t anything like it is today.  Thankfully now with digital recording devices and internet broadcast services like Vimeo we can all share in some amazing performances no matter where they might happen around the world.

This next piece, from our friends A Sangre Fria, (You might remember them from the Drum Parade post) was a performance done for MADATAC, the Madrid Festival of Contemporary Audio-Visual Arts (Muestra Abierta de Arte Audiovisual Contemporáneo).  The site describes the film as unsettling, but we believe nothing could be further from the truth.

AGRO Mini-Bike Suspension

For those of you that keep up with suspension shenanigans, this next video is not new news to you. But for the readership that missed this little gem, from the Tulsa Oklahoma chapter of AGRO, well let’s just say you gotta love the crazy people in this world.  Back in March, Jesse Star with the help of Rick Pierceall‘s crew experimented with a mini bike and some hooks.  Enjoy:

Benefit Show Featuring Nassau Chainsaw

Saturday September 25th the crew from Nassau Chainsaw are doing a show at Cha Cha’s to benefit the members of DisGraceLanD Hook Squad that were injured in a serious SUV Accident back in July.  All proceeds from the door and a portion of merch sales will be going to the benefit fund.  So if you’re in the NYC area please come out and support this worthy cause.

Nassau Chainsaw

If you’re not familiar with Nassau Chainsaw check out their video below, Behind Enemy Line, for a little taste of the Nassau Chainsaw DisGraceLanD Demolition Committee experience:

Besides, the show being a benefit and getting to see NCDDC live, there are still even more reason’s to come check out the show.  Strip for Pain, Squidling Brothers Circus Sideshow and God’s Green Earth will all be performing that night as well.  Some come out, enjoy the show and feel good about giving your money to a worth while cause.

From the band – “I would like to just say thanks to everyone in the suspension community around the world for being there for our brother Spliff. Much Love + Respect…”

Free Wire

Here’s a rather interesting way to promote a product.  In the video below, shot at the South Florida Tattoo Expo, Nicola of Skin Mechanics Suspension is suspended in a modified sitting position while Chris Blinston of No Hard Feelings (suspending in a body harness) uses the Free Wire wireless machine to tattoo her leg.

Oslo Suscon Video

Another great submission from Robin.  Here’s a nice little video of his suspension from the 2010 Oslo Suscon.  …and a special thanks to Chai from Calm Body Modification for helping make this happen.

Rites of Passage BBQ Video

Weren’t able to make it out to the ROP BBQ this last weekend?  Well, Claire and Shawn the same duo that gave us the Dallas Suscon Video put together a another nice little piece to give a you a glimpse of what you missed.

Suscon Montage

Upon rummaging through old video files I stumbled across this video. Within are segments from past suscons including the infamous rental car vs guiche pull during the 2007 Southwest suscon, the skydiver formation from the NoCal Suscon in 2008, as well as many other events fortunate to fall victim to video recording.

*I would like the viewers to keep in mind that the footage here is a few years old and the rigging techniques seen may be outdated.*

WARNING – The video below is quite graphic and contains nudity
