Seems these days everyone is turning 40. Just recently our good friend Håvve Fjell passed into old age and today Steve Joyner joins the ranks of the elderly. Now for those of you involved in suspension and/or the body modification world, you probably know Steve and his group CoRE – Constructions of Ritual Evolution.
For the rest of the world, please let me give you a bit of his background including why you should thank Mr Joyner for his contributions. First of all, Steve has been an integral part of body modification industry for two decades. I’ve seen first hand the blood, sweat and tears this man has put into dealing with legislature. This sacrifice alone deserves recognition, but he has done much more.
If you’ve seen suspension performance then there’s a good chance you’ve seen a sideshow or freak show. Both of these art forms were around long before suspension, but Steve brought something very new to the stage. If you’ve been lucky enough to see CoRE then you’ve witnessed a truly unique form of entertainment. Now of course, his crew deserves as much credit as him. However, since day one, it’s been his drive and passion that has kept his group together and moving into new uncharted territory. (For more info on CoRE, visit there website)
Over the years, Steve and I have butted heads on many occasions. Sometimes over serious problems, but more often not it’s been trivial issues. Why you might ask? Simple. We are both hard headed and passionate about our beliefs. In the end, through all the thick and thin, he’s been a source of strength, a wealth of wisdom and ultimately a good friend. Thanks for all that you have done and….

Happy birthday, brother!
I have a few more years before I join the 40 club, but not many. Hope this one treats you as well as you’ve always treated me! Love you, Steve
I like how you conveniently left yourself out of this article on old age Allen. Seems like 1970 was good to many of us. I will also be 40 Nov. 20th.
